I had braces or aligners before — do I need to start over?

Not necessarily. Most relapse patients don't need a full restart. SmileTrue has relapse-specific options, and many qualify for simpler, shorter, lower-cost correction. Your doctor will assess your situation and show you the appropriate path.

The Consultation

How the SmileTrue process starts.

  • Your SmileTrue process begins with a scan appointment — your first visit, which takes about 30 minutes.

During this first visit, you'll discuss your smile goals and concerns, and a precise digital scan of your teeth is taken. After your scan is evaluated, your doctor-approved treatment options are presented at a second appointment.

At that second appointment, your doctor walks through the clinically appropriate options for your case. You ask questions, and you decide if and when you want to move forward — no pressure.

A $50 reservation fee holds your consultation and digital scan appointment. If you begin treatment, the fee is applied toward your care.

  • Your SmileTrue process takes place across two appointments.

First appointment — Scan (~30 minutes): 01 · Welcome & discussion (10 min): talk about your smile, concerns, and goals. 02 · Digital scan (15–20 min): a comfortable, precise scan of your teeth.

Second appointment — Options review: 03 · Doctor evaluation: your doctor reviews your scan and determines what is clinically appropriate. 04 · Options presented: you see your doctor-approved treatment choices. 05 · Questions (10 min): ask anything. We answer clearly. 06 · Decision (your choice): no pressure to decide today. Take your time.

  • Once you decide to move forward: your custom treatment plan is created, you receive your custom aligners, treatment begins with doctor guidance, you have regular check-ins with your doctor, you complete your treatment and receive retainers, and you maintain your results with retention support.

  • A recent dental exam is required before treatment begins. If you've had one in the last year, you're set. If not, your doctor will discuss the steps with you clearly in advance — no surprises.

  • Yes. If you need to reschedule, let us know at least 24 hours in advance and we'll find another time that works.

  • Absolutely. Bring a family member, friend, or partner for support. We encourage it.

  • No. Your first appointment is the consultation and digital scan. Your doctor-approved treatment options are reviewed at a second appointment, and you decide when and if to move forward — entirely on your timeline.

  • That's completely fine. The consultation is designed to give you clarity, not push you into a decision. Many patients take time to review their options before moving forward — no rush, no follow-up pressure.

Clinical Supervision

Doctor involvement and safety.

  • Yes.

Every SmileTrue treatment is doctor-led and supervised throughout. Your doctor creates your treatment plan, oversees your entire treatment, conducts regular check-ins, and is available for questions. Not remote. Not disconnected. A real doctor guiding your care.

  • Yes. You'll work with your SmileTrue doctor throughout your entire treatment.

  • Your doctor is available to address any concerns. Contact your doctor — these concerns are normal and manageable.

  • Yes — when you have healthy teeth and gums before starting, wear your aligners as directed, and maintain regular check-ins with your doctor. Your doctor will ensure treatment is appropriate for you.

  • Tell your doctor about any health conditions during your consultation. Your doctor will assess if treatment is appropriate and recommend any necessary precautions. SmileTrue can work for most patients, but your doctor will determine if it's right for your specific situation.

Treatment Timeline

How long it takes — start to finish.

  • About 3 weeks from your first appointment to starting treatment.

Timeline: first scan appointment (~30 minutes) → doctor reviews your case and presents options at a second appointment → custom aligners made (1–2 weeks) → treatment begins.

This is the normal timeframe. Your doctor will provide a specific timeline when you book.

  • Treatment length depends on your specific needs and chosen option.

TRUE (simpler cases): 6–12 months. TRUER (moderate cases): 9–18 months. TRUEST (complex cases): 12–24 months.

These are estimates. Your doctor will give you a specific timeline based on your individual plan during your consultation.

  • Most treatments follow the expected timeline. In some cases, treatment may finish slightly ahead of schedule — and if adjustment is needed, your one included revision can extend the timeline slightly. Your doctor monitors progress and keeps you informed.

Pricing & Payment

Cost clarity. No hidden fees.

  • TRUE — $2,695. TRUER — $3,495. TRUEST — $4,195.

Each includes a doctor-approved plan, one revision, one set of retainers, and doctor support. Your doctor will recommend what's appropriate. You choose what fits your goals and budget.

  • A $50 reservation fee holds your consultation and digital scan appointment. If you begin treatment, the fee is applied toward your care.

  • No. The price listed is the complete cost for treatment. No surprises.

  • SmileTrue pricing is straightforward and affordable. Many patients have insurance benefits that can help. Discuss this during your consultation.

  • Yes. We offer flexible payment options — full payment upfront, monthly payment plans, or financing. Discuss during your consultation.

Options & Choice

Doctor recommends. You choose.

  • No.

You may be shown more than one doctor-approved treatment option. This is the SmileTrue difference.

  • Your doctor will recommend what's clinically appropriate. You see your options clearly and choose what fits your goals, timeline, and budget.

  • You can choose a different level than recommended. Your doctor will explain why they made their recommendation and what to expect. The final choice is always yours.

  • Discuss any changes with your doctor. Depending on your situation, upgrades or downgrades may be possible. Adjustments can also be made during your one included revision.

  • SmileTrue is built around the belief that patients should understand their doctor-approved options and choose what fits their goals, comfort level, and budget. Pressure-based decisions don't lead to confident, long-term outcomes. You Choose. We Execute.

Revisions & Retainers

What's included — and after.

  • Yes. Every SmileTrue treatment includes one revision (if needed to fine-tune your results) and one set of retainers (to maintain your results). These are included in your treatment price — no extra cost.

  • One revision is included in your treatment. If additional revisions are needed, discuss with your doctor — additional costs would apply, but most cases are addressed in the one included revision. Your doctor monitors your progress and will let you know if additional work is needed.

  • Retainers are custom-made appliances that help maintain your newly straightened smile. After treatment, you receive one set of retainers (included), and your doctor will instruct you on how to wear them. Retainer schedule: first 6 months full-time (except eating/brushing), after 6 months nightly (ongoing). This is important for long-term results.

  • Retainers can need replacement over time. Replacement cost is separate, but your doctor will discuss how long retainers typically last, when replacement might be needed, and the cost for new retainers. We recommend wearing retainers long-term to keep your smile straight.

07 · Section

Relapse & Returning

You may not need to start over.

  • Yes.

If your teeth have shifted after previous treatment, you may not need to start over. In many cases, focused correction may improve your smile without starting over from the beginning — with the same clinical standard.

  • Not always. Many patients only need focused movement to improve relapse from previous braces or aligner treatment. SmileTrue offers doctor-approved options based on your current condition, goals, and level of correction desired.

  • No. Relapse treatment is often simpler and faster. It targets specific shifting. Cost is often lower.

  • Teeth naturally continue to change over time. This is normal. That's why retainers are important — to help maintain your results long-term.

Eligibility & Health

Healthy teeth and gums first.

  • Basic requirements: healthy teeth and gums before treatment starts, commitment to wearing aligners as directed, ability to attend check-in appointments, and age generally 16+ (younger patients can be discussed). If your teeth or gums aren't healthy, your doctor will guide you on what to address first — many issues can be resolved before treatment begins. Your doctor will assess your individual situation during consultation.

  • Yes. Healthy teeth and gums are required before treatment begins. Treatment works best on healthy foundations, unhealthy gums can be affected by aligners, and you'll get better, longer-lasting results. If you need cleanings or fillings, gum treatment, or other dental work, your doctor can recommend what to do first. Many patients can start treatment after addressing these issues — usually quickly.

  • Not immediately. These must be addressed first. The good news: these are common and treatable, addressing them improves your overall smile, after treatment you can start SmileTrue, and the timeline is usually short. Your doctor will recommend a plan and work with you to get ready for treatment.

  • SmileTrue is a good fit for most patients, but there are situations where your doctor may recommend a different path. Active gum disease, significant bone loss, certain jaw conditions, or very complex bite issues may require treatment that goes beyond what clear aligners can address. Your doctor will review your situation honestly during your scan appointment and tell you clearly what's appropriate — and what isn't.

  • Good question. SmileTrue can work around implants and bridges, but your situation is unique. During your consultation, tell your doctor about your implants or bridges, and your doctor will assess your specific situation. We can usually work with you, but might need special planning. Your doctor will explain if there are any limitations. We'll be honest about what's possible with your specific situation.

General Process

How SmileTrue is different.

  • No. SmileTrue combines clear aligner treatment with a defined patient journey designed around clarity, structure, communication, and doctor-approved treatment options.

Other systems often present one plan and expect you to commit, with remote supervision and limited doctor interaction. SmileTrue shows you multiple doctor-approved options, in-office doctor supervision throughout, clear pricing upfront, and is built for patient choice — not pressure.

  • SmileTrue was built from nearly 40 years of real-world orthodontic and clear aligner experience — refining the patient journey into a clearer and more structured system. This isn't a startup chasing a trend. It's a clinical system shaped inside real orthodontic practices, informed by tens of thousands of patient and office interactions over decades.

  • Both can produce excellent outcomes when clinically appropriate. SmileTrue is built around clear aligners and a structured treatment pathway — removable, less visible, and designed for patient choice and confidence-focused outcomes. Your doctor will help determine which path fits your case.

  • The goal is not pressure — it is clarity. During your consultation, you'll review doctor-approved options and decide what feels right for your goals, comfort level, and budget. No obligation, no rush.

  • Not every patient is a candidate, and honesty is part of good care. If your doctor determines SmileTrue isn't the right path, they'll explain why and discuss alternatives — including a referral to another specialist if that's the better outcome for you.
